Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Tokyo in 2000, and completed the Graduate School of Medicine at the same university in 2004. After serving as a team leader at RIKEN from 2003, he was appointed Professor at the Graduate School of Medicine, the University of Tokyo in 2013. He currently holds concurrent positions as a team leader at RIKEN and Professor at the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo. His research interests include systems pharmacology and sleep science.
